Spiraal magazine, with contributions by stanley brouwn, 1957- 1959

In 1957 stanley brouwn, aged 22, moved from Paramaribo (Surinam) to Amsterdam. The same year his first ever published work appeared in Spiraal No.1 (ref. Harry Ruhé, stanley brouwn: A Chronology). brouwn contributed several poems and drawings to the first fives issues of the Amsterdam based literary and graphic periodical, all included in this lot.

Comprises: (1) No.1, December 57, with poem by brouwn. Wear on back cover, else fine. (2) No.2, n.d. 1958, brouwn poem. (3) No.3, drawings and poems by brouwn dedicated to Lous, 2 pp. (4) No.4, covers with wear and tear, interior good, one drawing by brouwn. (5) No.5, reproduced brouwn drawing on the front cover, two poems and a b/w picture featuring SB on interior of the back cover. (6) No.8. Autumn 1958. (7) No.9. (8) No.11 June 1959. All issues staple-bound stencilled booklets, ca. 21 x 16 cm, with minimal toning on covers. Added is a promotional note hand dated 6-6-1958 and a newspaper article citing brouwn's contribution to No.5 being a lump of Aztec poetry (een brok Aztekische poezie). All copies very rare.
