[Manuscripts]

By H. Post. Amstelkade 30 Amsterdam Z. 1943-1944." Manuscript, frontispiece and 137 p. in legible handwriting, with 62 pasted illustrations on 14 sheets, originally half-cloth, 4to.

Exceptional manuscript encyclopedia from the war years, which runs through the entire alphabet and explains a great amount of terms related to the Indies. The author has used various sorts of illustrations, mainly postcards, newspaper photos and Droste-album pictures. Possibly, the author was Hans Post, pseudonym for Hubert Paas and writer of the book "Bandjir over Noord Sumatra" (Medan, 1947-1949, 3 parts) and the English work The Missionary (Perth, 1993). According to a seller of the latter book, Hubert Paas was a resistance fighter during The Second World War who, after the occupation of the Netherlands by the Germans, wrote daily for BBC News under the pseudonym Hans Post. He eluded to England where he underwent commando training after which he infiltrated into German-occupied Europe to do cause in preparation for allied air and ground attack. The book The Missionary is an account based on his recollections and on detailed journals. All suggests that Hans Post has led a very exciting life. The Encyclopedia of the Indies does not posses this emanation.
