12mo, new binding, leather, title in red and gilt stamping on spine, marbled endpapers. 3 volumes in one binding, (2),(4),189,(13),(2),126,(16),73 pp., complete with 12 finely engraved illustrations, incl. one on the title; first and only complete edition of the collected poetic works of the Dutch lawyer and poet Johan van Dans who exclusively wrote light and amusing love poems. The first volume is dedicated to the Dutch young ladies. In the second volume the affair of the Duke of Gelre with a milkmaid is described and the third volume contains 22 kiss-poems followed by mixed poems including an ode to the "Leydsche Daphne". Together, the volumes are a source of knowledge about the 17th century love life in the Netherlands. Rare.
