Very rare second Dutch edition, of which PiCarta lists only one copy (Rijksmuseum Amsterdam), the RKD has the copy of Frits Lugt in its possession. The first Dutch edition was also published at Leiden, by Jacobus Willeke, in 1742 and with the same paging under the title: "Verhandeling over de vernissen, waar in de wyze opgegeeven wordt om 'er een toe te stellen, dat 't Chineesch vernis volmaakt gelykt." (only 2 such copies in PiCarta). The Dutch editions are a translation of the French first edition from 1723, which in turn is a translation of the first Italian printing from 1720 ("Trattato sopra la vernice detta communemente Cinese"). In our edition, the message from the French translator to the reader is included in Dutch, preceded by a word to the reader specifically for this edition. It warns the reader for example to not close off the bottles or glasses used for erasing with brandy: "Dewyl zulks niet zonder gevaar kan geschieden, naademaal zodanige glaasen wel haast aan stukken springen zouden, wanneer de Voorloop maar zou beginnen te kooken."
