PASSED

[Heraldry] "Manuscrit d'heraldique Flamande" (spine title).

Manuscript, ca. 1750, 33 leaves written and illustrated on one side with non-consecutive pagination (final leaf numbered 112), with 62 escutcheons coloured in gouache and a number of blank escutcheons, with inscriptions in pen with each time the names of the spouses (sometimes with date, newest dated 1712), bound by J. Terrier (Lille) in early 20th-century half vellum with leather spine title, 4to.

In contrast with the spine title, the work mostly concerns northern Dutch families. Finely finished escutcheons, the names follow one another as if the whole served to illustrate a family tree. With e.g. family names Roerom (e.g. as first inscription: "Jacob Roerom trout Beatrix, in een wiegje behouden, anno 1421" [the famous Beatrix who survived the St. Elizabeth's flood in a crib]), Boetkens, De Booth, De Haas, Van Cappel, De Custer, Van Gogh, Syx [Six?], Van Slingeland, Gouthouven, Huijman, Lucq, Heerman(s), Verveer, Stoop, Nan, Van Braem, De Stecht, Van der AA and Van der Meer.
