[Indonesia. Java] Antiquarian, Architectural and Landscape illustrations

of the History of Java, by the late Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles (...). With a large map of Java and its dependencies and several interesting plates now first published. London, H.G. Bohn, 1844, 3 letterpress leaves (title and plate index) followed by a large folding, lithographed map of Java (41 x 106 cm.) and 92 plates in various media (of which 10 handcoloured), modern half leather, folio.

Without the text volumes, published much earlier (1830). Map in two parts (neatly torn on first fold so easily restorable); several plates with water stain in top margin. Else a very good and above all remarkably clean copy. The rare Bohn-Atlas, published 14 years after the text volumes of the second edition and with 22 plates more compared to the first edition of 1817. Contains besides the impressive, detailed map 10 handcoloured aquatints of traditional costumes, plates of Javanese weapons and wayang masks and figures, music, linguistics, etc.
