Grohmann. Issues 22-35, 37-48 and 55 (or 7?). Leipzig/ Paris etc., Baumgärtner/ Fuchs etc., ca. 1799-1802, 26 (of 60) issues with a total of 232 plates (of which 16 handcoloured) with accompanying text in German and French, loose as published in original uniform letterpress wrappers, large 4to.

Several issues waterstained, 2 with label on back cover and 2 with library stamp on front cover. Here and there minor defects such as small tears/ fraying on inside and outside (no. 41 with larger tear in front cover), foxing etc. yet a very good, uncut set, complete as published. The issue numbers are partly printed on the wrappers, some have the (erroneous) printed numbers corrected in pen and some have the number only filled out in pen. All but one of the issue numbers on the wrappers correspond with the issue numbers on the plates, one issue is numbered 55 on the wrapper and 7 on the plates. Only issues 25 and 37 with title pages (dated 1799 and 1802) and with indices for issues 13-24 and 25-36. Many issues bound with extras such as the Literarischer Anzeiger (dated 1809 in issue 55) and/ or publisher's advertisements. Beautiful and relatively large series of this magazine dedicated to the originally English phenomenon "follies", architectural elements in large (landscape) gardens. Complete sets of 60 issues (1796-1811) are extremely rare, large sets like ours very rarely appear on the market as well.
