[Chapbooks. Unknown variant] De worstelinge Jacobs,

Vervattende De wonderlijcke Worstelinge, en Zalige Overwinninge van Jacob van der Graef (...). [By Simon Simonides]. Desen Dertienden Druk oversien en van fouten verbetert, The Hague, C. van Zanten, 1729 [sic], (24) p., with title woodcut and woodcut illustration of a skull over the "Lyck-dicht", loose in old wrapper.

Waterstained, with narrow margins and a few minor other defects, wrapper defect. Unknown variant, no copies in PiCarta. There are, however, known copies of a thirteenth edition by the Erve G. de Groot and A. van Dam (1723) and a fourteenth edition by the Erve G. de Groot from 1729 (so the same date as our edition). Jacob van der Graef(f) was decapitated for an attack on Jan de Wit, but due to the political events and the death of the De Wits themselves, was subsequently considered a martyr by the people. The earliest editions (1672, see e.g. Knuttel 10461) are pamphlets, yet the work grew to become an extremely popular chapbook, of which a sixteenth edition appeared in 1761.
