[Netherlands. Covens & Mortier] Nieuwe zak-atlas voor de reizigers.

Door de gezamentlyke Nederlanden. Nevens een geographische beschryvinge en een lyst om de steden gemakkelyk te vinden [lyst = index in French at the end]/ Atlas portatif et nouveau du voyageur. Pour les dix-sept provinces des Pais-Bas (...). Amsterdam, Covens & Mortier, 1739, titles and descriptive text in Dutch and French, 24; (2),23,(1); 40,(8) p., (last 48 p. index only in French), with the following double-page engravings: frontispiece by K. Huyberts ("Le Théatre de la Guerre (...)", with address Covens & Mortier), handcoloured map of the Netherlands (A), overview map with the placement of the submaps (B), 4 handcoloured maps lettered C-F and 29 handcoloured maps numbered 1-29, also another two full-page engravings with scales (entirely as per the binder's indices in the Dutch and the French part, later binding in old style, in slipcase.

Text browned/ foxed, engravings on the other hand remarkably fresh. Very rare edition of the Sanson pocket atlas, no copies in PiCarta. According to a strip in the book, Koeman (Atlantes Neerlandici C & M 18) knew only one copy, at the KB Brussel, and this copy also lacks the 24 pages of "geographische beschryving". Worldcat lists three copies in libraries abroad. In our auction 14 (Dec. 2015), we had a title edition of this atlas without date (ca. 1740) and with only the French text, also without copies in PiCarta.
