Simon Fokke (1712-1784). 3 print series: (1) (Merckwaerdighe tooneelen

uit de waereldgeschiedenis; in kooper gebragt door Simon Fokke. Complete series of 192 engraved illustrations on 96 leaves, each 8 x 10 cm., printed number I-CXCII, with short title and indication of the plate's location in the 12-volume book.

Aforementioned title is supposedly a translation of the great work by Charles Rollin, Histoire ancienne, 1730-1738. Oddly enough, we were able to trace even in libraries and the RKD only the one-volume facsimile from 1971 (with paging CXCII), therefore a very rare print series. Perhaps the sizable work (12 volumes with approx. 300 pages per volume) was planned but never published, despite all the work by Fokke; (2) (Dutch historical plates). Series of 20 engravings by Simon Fokke on 10 leaves, each 8 x 10 cm., numbered I-XX, from J.W. te Water, De vaderlandsche historie van den heere J. Wagenaar, verkort (1784-1800), with bound along two folding plates by J. Folkema after L.F. Du Bourg, each 15 x 19 cm., contemporary cordbound wrapper, 8vo. And with one similar, loose print series by Simon Fokke (incomplete). Added: (4) "Clovis ou la France Chrestienne". Title in pen and grey wash, followed by a series of 24 pasted, numbered, etched plates monogrammed "N.C.F.", ca. 1700, bound in half sheepskin, 8vo (here and there contemporary sketches on reverse). The title has been copied after the frontispiece of the work by Jean Desmarets de Saint-Sorlin (Paris, 1666, no further illustrations). The monogram N.C.F. could belong to Nicolas Chapron (1st half 17th century) or Nicolas Chevalier (active in Paris, early 18th century) (total 4 print series).
