LOT 1392
SOLD €150,00

[Dutch East India Company] Five letterpress extracts from resolutions,

1743, 1749, 1750 (2x, variants of the same text), and 1774, 4-16 p., without wrappers, 4to (1743-1749) and folio (remainder), together in cloth dropback box with morocco letterpiece "Extract" on spine.

Cords loose/ tender, several waterstained; dropback box with stuck elastic band. The extract from 1774 treats the procedures to be followed with (especially contagious) diseases on the ships, e.g. the airing of clothes and baggage and other measures indicating a fairly good notion of hygiene and quarantaine. The extracts from 1750 contain the same text, but printed in various ways. This text contains precise regulations for the number of baggage boxes sailors are allowed to bring (depending on rank). They are also allowed to bring goods for personal trade, with some goods freely issued. Certain other goods, however, are to be sold only at the Kamers van De V.O.C., the proceeds going to the owner after taxes (total 5 in box).
