from the earliest period of their authentic history to the present times (...). To which is prefixed a genealogical table relative to the history. By Andrew Stuart. London, printed for A, Strahan, T. Cadell Jun. and W. Davies, 1798, XXIII,(1),468 p., with large folding, engraved family tree (83.5 x 55.5 cm., pasted to cloth) and 3 engraved plates, contemporary polished and gilt calf, 4to.

Occ. with some staining, binding with traces of use and two corners of boards bumped. Good copy with heraldic bookplate of George Harrison to inside front board; (2) The Genealogy of the Stewarts refuted: in a letter to Andrew Stuart (...) [by Sir Henry Steuart]. Edinburgh, printed for Bell & Bradfute and G.G. and J. Robinson, 1799, VIII,169 p., with 2 large folding, letterpress tables, bound uniformly with the previous and the same bookplate (minor defects). Copy on large paper with dedication by the author on the last blank leaf: "For Sir Wm. Pulteney Bart from the author". Bound thereafter 2 contemporary copies in pen of letters to Andrew Stuart by Hugh Blair (3 August 1799) and William Robertson (4 August 1799), in which they offer support to Stuart due to the publication against his work: "As soon as the anonymous Refutation of your Genealogical History was published, it was sent tot my house, inscribed on the blank leaf, from the Author." Bound with: (3) Supplement tot the Genealogical History of the Stewarts, with corrections and additions: and containing answers to an anonymous attack on that History, published at Edinburgh in February 1799 (...). Faulder, 1795, 312 p., with folding, letterpress family tree, contemporary speckled polished calf with gilt and ribbed back, 4to (minor internal and external defects). With heraldic bookplate of J. Dawson Brodie to flyleaf and of John Whitefoord Mackenzie (1794-1884) to inside front board. With inlaid note in envelope addressed to E.S. Verrijn Stuart van den Berg, conc. the sending of books.
