[Occultism] Aleister Crowley. Hymn to Pan
London, Aeon Art, 1980. 10 silkscreens by Andre Durand (b. 1947). Numbered and signed by the artist. Loose as issued in handmade Solander box with clasps. Lim. ed. 85 copies.
Crowley's text was first published in 1919. After his death in 1947 Crowley was more or less forgotten but he was rediscovered by the psychedelic generation of the 1960s, who could relate to Crowley's free-spirited 'Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law' philosophy. He was depicted among other cult heroes on the cover of Sgt. Pepper. Crowley's (rare) work was collected by Led Zeppelins Jimmy Page, who also bought Crowley's Scottish manor Boleskine in 1970.
