[China. Mah Jong] Early 20th century bone and ivory Mah Jong set
Root wood western-made box (22.3 x 16.6 x 17.7 cm). Top w. bone Babcock characters inlaid. The tiles (2.1 x 3.1 x 1.4 cm) are Chinese. Made of high quality thick bone and a thin bamboo layer. Beautifully engr. The counters are flat strips of ivory. The dice (4x) are made of bone in a sm. ivory box. The wind discs are also made of ivory (w/o Ming-cylinder). The instruction manual is a French version of the ‘Lung Chan’ booklet (sc) dated 1924.
