Brugghe. Pieter vande Capelle. 1714. Sm. 8vo., modern gilt half leather. 2 parts in one vol., (10),160; 41,(1) p., (pag. wrong in places), w. folded table, 36 engr. fold. plates and 1 movable print in ink.

The very rare original edition of this mathematical treatise, with all but plate Z1 conforming to the binder's index. We could not verify (no copies with plates digitized online), but we suspect that plate Z1 was executed in pen in all copies, due to the layering of the plate and a description on page 60. In addition, all engraved plates left a faint imprint on the opposite spine of the plate before, the plate before plate Z1 only has a faint embossed impression due to the layering of Z1. The two digitized copies (1x edition ca. 1800) in the library in Ghent have no plates, but also no binder's index on the verso of the praise poem, two copies in the Netherlands (Amsterdam and Delft) do not mention plates. This suggests that copies without plates were also issued. A nice element of this edition are the puns: the name of the author on the title page (in a special diamond shape) and on the praise poem, where every letter of Van Dycke's full name is used as the first letter of a stanza (see images). [Very rare treatise on surveying art] Preuve der landt-meters.
