[Business Archive] "Mijn concessies Maatschap Luckey e.a. Bewaren als goud"

Business archive of Willem Frederik Luckey "planter te Medan" (also mentions J.W. Bausch van Bertsbergh), ca. 1903-10, comprising "Aktes van vergunning" and other permits partly issued by the Sultan of Langkat, (manuscript) maps of concessions (in the Langkat-Karo area), quittances, "wisselbrieven", letters (partly to Bausch van Bertsbergh), a photograph, quick annotations, etc., kept in portfolio w. the mentioned manuscript text on front.

A very interesting business archive, giving great insight in the (partly successful) exploration of Indonesian area's for profit. A few notable items: (1) "Onderneming Besitang. Schaal 1:10.000. Vervaardigd uit gegevens overgenomen uit de Top. kaart Medan, 5 Mei 1904, de gouvernementslandmeter. [signed:] A. den Berger". Handcol. manuscript map on fold. silk, 90 x 89 cm., centrally numb. "64. No. o/d Top: kaart" (sl. yellowed/ foxed and w. some imperfections). Besitang was a rubber plantation. (2) Bifolium, typescript agreement dated "Medan den 14 Maart 1910", signed by Luckey and Bausch van Bertsbergh in pen, w. bindst. tax stamp, folio: "De ondergetekenden, Willem Fredeik Luckey, zonder beroep, tydelyk te Medan vertoevende en Johan Wilhelm Bausch van Bertsbergh, beheerder der onderneming Helvetia (Deli) en aldaar woonachtig. verklaren by dezen voor onbepaalden tyd een maatschap te hebben aangegaan, tot het aanvragen van vergunningen tot het doen van mynbouwkundige opsporingen in de Residentie Oostkust van Sumatra en Atjeh, en Onderhoorigheeden, tot het exploreeren derzelve en het aanvragen van definitieve vergunningen om deze later te verkoopen (...)." (3) "Akte van vergunning" issued by the Sultan van Langkat, for 9500 hectares of land in the Langkat area, 8 p., folio, dated 21 August 1909, signed in pen by the sultan (or his secretary) and w. stamp of the Nederlandsch Indisch Gouvernement aan de Sulthan van Langkat, signed in pen by Luckey and Bausch van Bertsbergh. Present in 3 copies, in a signed folder w. tax stamp, together w. manuscript maps and documentation on the project. (4) "Afrekening over Tabakoogst 1910 van Onderneming Medan met de Heeren W.F. Luckey en C.L. Cool." Manuscript signed and stamped calculation. (5) Approx. 30 identical unused (blank) permits, most signed in advance by Luckey, indicating his ambitions as a planter in Indonesia.
