In 1942, the house in Biggekerke was confiscated by the Germans, and Nettie and her son went to Ginneken, where Faan had his studio "Huize Chiquita" (Overascheweg C 2AA, now Overaseweg). From 1933 to 1936, Faan was an apprentice of Man Ray, with whom he shared a studio in Paris. After his time in Paris, Nijhoff worked in the United States for some time, and he exhibited at the MoMa in New York in 1937. 'Stephen Storm' is known for his series of iconic portrait photographs of Marlow Moss (1889–1958), portraits that are important for the histories of modern art and the LGBTQ+ community. Nijhoff is also known as a teacher of Paul Huf and for his work for the Gemeentemuseum Den Haag. Paul Deen performed in illegal shows during the war, before acting together as a cabaretier with a.o. Wim Sonneveld; Deen is mainly remembered for his many radio plays.
