Linderman, J. Coin weighing box ("muntgewichtdoosje")

By either Linderman II or III, 2nd half 18th cent. Fruit wood, 6 x 11.5 x 2.5 cm, outer lid w. coat of arms (without indication of city arms), inner lid w. pasted, handcol. engr. label w. address of Linderman. Box contains: iron scales, 7 brass weights (one w. the coat of arms of Amsterdam and the letters LM), one thin brass "greingewicht" (marked 2) and the orig. sm. pin for taking the weights out of the box.

The compartment for the "greingewichten" lacks the lid, the maker's label is sl. dam. in places. The full text on the label reads: "Dese gewigten werden gemaakt en verkogt by Joannes Linderman op de Beurs en in (de Kalver)straat naast de kerk de Papega(y in de) Goud Balans tot Amsterdam." Probably Linderman II (1700-58), but perhaps by Linderman III (1745-1806).
