Extremely rare French edition. Schultz had seen the canary w. its extremely deformed beak in the collection of B. Vriends in Haarlem. Cobres I, p. 187. On the original German edition, cf. Nouveau traité des serins de canarie, contenant la maniere de les élever & les appareiller pour en avoir de belles races; avec des remarques sur les signes & causes de leurs maladies & plusieurs secrets pour les guérir. Nouvelle édition, revûe, corrigée & augmentée (...). Later edition of - according to Birkhead - the first ever monograph on canaries, by the ultimate canary connoisseur, covering all aspects of the species. The author took care of the canaries of Mme. Princesse de Condé and was one of the best in training canaries to sing. The first edition was published in 1705.
