'Paulus en de eikelmannetjes' is widely considered Dulieu's magnum opus, particularly for its groundbreaking use of colours. This preliminary study shows Dulieu's unorthodox approach, which made this work so unique. The composition bears resemblance to the background featured on p. 29 (Paulus in de doofpot bij Eucalypta).
