[Paper Doll] Griebler, Matthias (b. 1972). Kasperle on Rollerskates

1993-94. Movable paper doll. Ink, watercolour on paper, brass joints. Ca. 27 x 16 cm. Framed under glass. Total size 44 x 35 cm. Signed and dated in pencil on verso, verification based of the reverse (held in Van der Mieden's archive), as the work has not been inspected outside its frame. Possibly one of the earliest examples of the artist's phenomenal, wonderfully bizarre paper dolls.

Added: typoscript letter Griebler to 'Lieve Otto [Van der Mieden]' 10 Nov. 2003 in which the artist writes i.a.: 'De "Janklaassen op rolschaatsen" is, mijnheer, alstublieft, van 1994, als niet zelfs van 1993. Als dergelijke inhoudelijke fouten mijn vroegrijpheid doen ontkennen, word ik gloeiend kwaad.' Provenance: The Otto van der Mieden collection. In very good condition. (total 2)
