The first French edition, translation by J. Bertrand of Caput Bonae Spei hodiernum, das ist, Vollständige Beschreibung des africanischen Vorgebürges der Guten Hoffnung (1719). A detailed travel account of the Cape of Good Hope by the German naturalist Kolb (1675-1726), who lived and worked in the Cape from 1705 until 1713. Contains descriptions of the Cape's geography, climate and Hottentot customs based on Kolbe's experience. The fine large maps - w. captions in Dutch and French - show an overview of the Cape of Good Hope, the coast of Mozambique up to the Cape, the Cape Colony, the Stellenbosch Colony and the Drakenstein and De Waveren Colonies. The fine large view shows the Cape with the mountains in the background. The full-p. plates depict flora and fauna (zebra, elephant, tiger, etc.) and scenes from the life of the Hottentots (dances, birth and wedding ceremonies, etc.). (total 3)
