[Tachtigers] Isaac Israëls Erens, Frans. Dansen en Rhytmen (cloth edition)
Amsterdam, Versluys, [1893]. First edition. Decorated cloth, design by Isaac Israëls. Ex bibliotheca P. Sitniakowsky. Modernist urban prose poems, written mainly during Erens and Israëls’ nocturnal walks through the Zeedijk and surrounding area around 1890. A highlight of 1890s Dutch book design. Minor defects (corners slightly bumped, spine somewhat faded), overall in good condition.
Added: Emile Erens. Korte verhalen. Amsterdam, Van Looy, 1906. First and only edition. Decorated half cloth. With ex libris by Herman Moerkerk. Prose poems and sketches by Frans Erens’ brother, comprising texts set in Limburg as well as mystical and symbolist-inspired writings (among them Annunciatie, Een extase, and Fantasie). Also includes Morphine, a prose poem on a drug-induced experience — a rare subject in Dutch literature around 1900. (total 2)
