Heemskerck, M. van (1498-1574) (after). "Heemskirk(...) plates to the bible"

Collector's album, containing 59 engr. plates, var. sizes (most obl. folio, a few fold.), engr. or published by Hieronymus Cock, Adriaen Collaert, Johannes Collaert I, Dirck Volkertsz. Coornhert, Johannes Galle, Philips Galle, Theodoor Galle, Gerard de Jode, Simon Novellanus, Chrispijn de Passe I, Jan van der Straet, Maerten de Vos I and Anthonius Wierix, all but one trimmed to/ near the plate mark and fully mounted, in orig. 18th cent. full calf binding w. large inlaid mor. stars on both covers, folio. A few prints dam. in corners, binding worn along extremities, joints split(ting). With engr. bookplate of Henry B.H. Beaufoy (1786-1851, similar other albums from his collection exist) and stamps "AOL" on upper pastedown. The previous owner very neatly indexed all the prints in pencil (on a blank leaf at the end), w. indication of the series to which they belong and all the Hollstein numbers plus states. More detailed information such as individual titles, involved artists and publishers (incl. the Hollstein numbers and states) is written in pencil in the lower blank corner of each print. A very fine and rare old collection of Bible prints.
