(1) Mercury presiding over the arts. Engraving, 24.5 x 17.5 cm, from the series of 7 dep. the planetary Gods. Numb. 6 and w. 2-line Latin verse in the plate, loose under passe-partout. Good impression on fine laid paper w. large eagle watermark, w. narrow margins. Smoothed-out central vertical fold, sm. pieces of tape from former mounting at corners verso. Protected by transparent film. A good copy. W. collector's mark of Claude van Loock (b. 1945) (Lugt 3753) verso. Hollstein (Saenredam) 55, first state (of 2), New Hollstein (after Goltzius) 662, first state (of 2). (2) Rebecca at the well. Engraving, 22 x 15.8 cm, from the series The wives of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (1597), monogrammed "HG. Inventor" and w. 2-line verse in the plate, mounted at upper corners under passe-partout. Good impression on paper w. large watermark Pascal Lamb (cf. Churchill 456), w. ample margins. Smoothed-out central horizontal fold, sl. foxed. W. 2 collectors' marks of E. Fabricius (Lugt 847a and 919ter) verso. Only known in 1 state. New Hollstein (attributed to Saenredam), 398. Hollstein VIII (after Goltzius), 236. Formerly attributed to Jacob Matham, Hollstein (Matham), 21, only state. Added: 1 other by Nicolaes de Bruyn (1571-1656), published by Assuerus van Londerseel.
