Cor Jaring (1936-2013)

"Mat Reneman als uitvinder van Immuun-blauw". 1975. Stamp Galerie Guido de Spa, Sticker "Photo's must be credited to Cor Jaring" and handwriting Jaring. Silver gelatine 25,5 x 20 cm.

* Cor Jaring was born on the Amsterdam island "Wittenburg" in 1936. After elementary school he starts work in the harbour. During those days he starts to make his first photos. Initially, these are children's photos by going door to door and make a little money on the side. In the early '60s Jaring meets Robert Jasper Grootveld, Theo Kley, Henk Meijer and people such as Johnny de Selfkicker and Simon Vinkenoog. Because of the photos he makes at every happening he achieves his definite breakthrough. After the provo movement he dedicates himself to documentaries in Alaska and the Far East, among other places. From the '70s he teaches at the Rijksacademie voor Kunst en Industrie in Enschede. His photos have been exhibited in the Boymans van Beuningen, the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam Historisch Museum. In 1987 auction house Christie's organised a special auction of Jaring's photos. Shortly before he passed away in 2013, he donated his archive to the Amsterdam city archives. Original photos by Jaring rarely come into circulation. The photos presented here are all from private collection.
