Antiphonarium Romanum ad Ritum Breviarij,
ex decreto sacrosancti Concilii Tridentini Restituti. Venice, "apud Sessas" (colophon at the end monogrammed "G.R."), 1607, 179,(1) lvs, printed in red and black, w. 17 sm. inital woodcut ills. and num. large woodcut initials. Contemp. richly blindst. pigskin over wooden sides w. bevelled edges, 2 brass clasps and catches, blue edges, w. vellum thumb-index (partly worn away), ribbed spine. Large folio (44.5 x 30 cm). Some internal (water)staining, minor wormholing to lower endpapers. Binding w. age-related wear: wood showing in places, staining, tailband lacking and upper hinge split in lower compartment. Extremely rare edition, apparently no copies in OCLC; cf. the edition by Bernardo Giunta of the same year w. identical pagination.
A very fine, desirable example of an early 17th-cent. antiphonary. Noteworthy: pastedowns and free endpapers contain neatly handwritten additions, incl. musical notation on 4-line staves. Ex collection Ludwig Rosenthal's Antiquariaat (fl. 2800,-).
