Volgens het Samenstel van den Heer Linnaeus. Amst., F. Houttuyn, (a.o.), 1761-85, 3 parts in 37 vols., w. 296 fine engr. plates (all fold.) of minerals, quadrupeds, plants, birds, reptiles, etc.,. Contemp., not entirely unif. calf w. ribbed and gilt spines, w. mor. letterpieces. Composite copy, several covers loose(ning), many letterpieces lacking, most spine-ends worn. Many vols. internal (water)stains/ browning, some vols. w. library stamps, several plates protruding and frayed. Part 1, vol. 14 in rather poor condition. Still a copy complete with all the plates.

*Famous Houttuyn ed., first extensive Dutch natural history (approx. 20,000 p.), based on Linnaeus' Systema Naturae', but largely a compilation of comparable works (e.g. Soulsby, 73). Very voluminous (approx. 2 metres). Houttuyn (1720-98) classifies plants, animals and minerals, providing detailed species descriptions. Hulth, p. 8; Nissen ZBI, 2011; Lindeboom 917-8. (total 37)
