Yoshio Nakajima. Three original collages, 1972

(1) Off-white sheet, 29.5 x 21 cm, with perforations, collaged Swedish newspaper clipping of Nakajima's event 'Everyday Club', various stamps in purple (Aktion, Fluxusunbeat), drawings in black ink and coloured marker, stamped 'prof. yoshio nakajima' and signed in pen in lower edge. (2) Off-white sheet, 27.5 x 21 cm, with perforations, collaged envelope, a newspaper clipping attached with string and staples, and numerous purple stamps (original piece AKTIONEN, dé-coll/age KULTUR, FLUXUSZONE unbeat). Signed and dated 1972 in lower right corner. (3) Folded magazine page, 19 x 22 cm. Both sides with collaged paper elements attached by a metal ring, green felt-tip drawing, and stamps in red and blue. Signed in pencil (once) and pen (twice), accompanied by Nakajima's notable artist's stamps.

Japanese experimental artist and cultural activist Yoshio Nakajima (b. 1940) worked amongst the avant-garde in Europe in the 1960s and 1970s. He was involved with Provo in the Netherlands, Happenings in Belgium (in both countries he was expelled for staging illegal performances), the Swedish Bauhaus Situationistes, Fluxus and Mail Art, coining his radical performative actions 'Unbeat'. From 1973 he started organizing international art seminars and events in the Swedish village of Ubbeboda, functioning as 'Art Missionary/Professor'.
