Ulay (Frank Uwe Laysiepen (1943-2020), was a German artist based in Amsterdam and Ljubljana, internationally recognised for his performance and Polaroid-based works, as well as for his collaborative performances with longtime companion Marina Abramovic. Ulay's Renais sense series of autobiographical collages in the early 70s was a seminal early example of performative gender (crossing) exploration in the arts.
