Upper joint split in lower compartments, top of spine sm. chip, coners bumped. We found a number of copies w. 4 plates like ours, but a few also have two extra maps bound in, probably added later. Good copy, w. bookplate of Ch. Gariod on upper pastedown. First French translation of the travel account of Nicolaus de Graaff (1639-1687), a Dutch surgeon travelling to the Dutch East Indies via the Cape of Good Hope and the African coasts, and to Japan, the Malaku islands etc. He stayed in Batavia for a considerable time.
