[Zeeland] Manuscript map of the Westerschelde and parts of Walcheren and Zuid-Beveland
Pen and ink and watercolour, 91 x 164 cm. On four joined sheets of very thin and semitranslucent, yellow wove paper, French captions, undated. Professionally restored copy, backed w. very thin paper closing tears and filling up lacking parts (one hole not filled), folded twice. Very interesting map of the Escaut Occidental between Flessingue and Breskens (approx. 7 kilometers as the crow flies), showing num. trajectories of cannonballs w. detailed in pen annotations, fired from the indicated fortified places and other fortresses at ships in the Westerschelde. The map shows that the Dutch artillery could cover this entire part of the Westerschelde, although it remains unclear whether an actual engagement is depicted or rather a hypothetical scenario or large-scale military exercise.
