"Signa precedentia dei iudicium" (Signs preceding God's judgment)
Four (of ?) engraved lvs, all measuring 56 x 38 cm, together forming the top portion and 1 leaf of a middle section of a large wall-print, on heavy paper, all with watermark goat in circle. All 4 prints w. horizontal middle-fold, all margins w. remnants of former mounts verso, one leaf w. sm. central hole. All w. collector's mark of Friedrich August II (1797-1854), king of Saxony (Lugt 971, the smallest and most ancient mark, of around 1834) in lower r. corners recto. The doubles of his huge collection were sold at auctions in 1856 and 1900. See also J.G.A. Frentzel, Die Kupferstich-Sammlung Friedrich August II (Leipzig, 1854, online available, not listing this set). Very intriguing set of prints, probably of German 18th cent. origin, not a single other copy traced anywhere. -and 4 other large sized religious engravings.
