Incl. the famous Leo Belgicus (1617, second state), by Hendrik Floris van Langren. Contemp. gilt double-panelled vellum w. emblems on covers and fleurons on spine, w. slits for ties, all edges gilt. Folio. Without ties, vellum sl. rubbed and darkened, boards sl. warped. Contemp. (unidentified) signature in margin of title-p., stamp skillfully removed from title, two owner's stamps on following leaf. A few very sm. spots expertly restored (barely visible), else a superb and complete copy, lavishly coloured.
First edition of the first folio atlas of the Low Countries, in the rare first state, w. the map 'Frisia Orientalis' between p. 84/85 (without text on verso) and w. the map 'Flandriae pars orientalior' instead of 'Caerte van t' Vrije'. Pieter van der Keere (1571- ca. 1646) initiated work on this atlas in 1615 and dedicated the completed work to the States General of the United Provinces. Van der Keere's brother-in-law, Petrus Montanus, supplied the Latin text. The preliminary contains poems in Latin and Greek by Petrus Scriverius, Daniel Heinsius and Petrus Bertius. V.d. Krogt.
