Uncommon first edition of the biography of Christoph Bernhard Freiherr von Galen (1606-1678), a Prince-bishop of Münster, renowned as a military leader and a strict proponent of the Counter-Reformation. He is nicknamed in the Netherlands 'Bommen Berend' (Bombing Bernard) for his heavy use of artillery during the siege of Groningen in 1672.
