Catholic "Schuilkerk" 't Boompje between Kalverstraat and Rokin, Amsterdam
Six large size, albumen photographs: Catholic 'Schuilkerk' 't Boompje between Kalverstraat and
Rokin, Amsterdam - 1904-1911. Fine large photographs, ca. 28.5 x 34 (4x) and 17 x 23 (2x) cm, 1904-1911, tipped on contemp. mounts, all w. ticket of A. Favier (Koningsplein 13, Amsterdam) on verso. The Catholic ‘hidden church (Schuilkerk) 't Boompje in Amsterdam, with its rich history from 1578 onwards, was situated between the Kalverstraat and the Rokin and was demolished in 1911. At this location, the V&D department store was built, already opening on 4 oktober 1912. A nice detail can be found on the large photograph of the main facade of the church (that caused a lot of controversy when it was finished in 1844): in the centre of the photograph, the photographic store Capi of C.A.P. (Kees) Ivens can be seen. A few more buildings with (vague) commercial facade lettering can be seen also. – Very nice and unusual photographs.
