Piët, Frans (1905-1997). Sjors en Sjimmie. Het Verdwijnmiddel
India ink on paper, 1965-66. Almost complete manuscript version of the book (partly in double-sheet, each two pages numbered identically), 97 (of 100, lacking page 2-1 and 5-1 and 5-2) pages, published as an album by Spaarnestad, 1967. Each sheet approx. 39 x 27 cm.
Frans Piët began his work on Sjors—the Dutch successor to Martin Branner’s Perry Winkle—in 1938. This collection originates from Piët’s private archive. To our delight part of this archive, which was previously considered lost, was rediscovered in a moving box on an attic. The material is offered here in its entirety, across seven lots in this auction. (total 97)
