[Palau] Relation des îles Pelew,

situées dans la partie occidentale de l'océan Pacifique; Composée sur les Journeaux et les communications du Capitaine Henri Wilson (...) en août 1783 (...). Traduit de l'anglais de George Keate (...). Parijs, Maradan, 1793, 2nd French edition, 2 parts, (4),280; (4),272 p., with 2 (large) folding engraved maps, 1 folding prints with island profiles, 4 stipple engraved portraits and 7 engraved prints of tools etc., contemporary uniform half calf leather with gilt spines.

Beautiful copy with tiny flaws here and there. The print with profiles has been bound wrongly at the end of part 1 instead of p. 148 in part 2. The title pages ask for 17 prints in total, the binder's indexes together for the 16 prints present. The first French edition appeared in 1788, just like the original English edition. The large map shows the location of the islands east of the Philippines and west of the Carolines (both groups of islands are depicted on the map in their entirety). The splendid portraits show Captain Wilson, King Abba-Thulle, his beautiful wife Ludee and Prince Lee Boo. An extensive account of Henri Wilson and his journey can be found on Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henry_Wilson_%28sailor%29).
