[Children's books] Ver van Huis. Reisvertellingen van Oom Bram over alles en nog wat.

Haarlem, I. de Haan, z.d. (ca. 1885), 24 p., 12 unsigned chromolithographic prints, original chromolithographed cardboard with cloth spine, small 4to.

Book block loose, apart from that very good copy of a very rare children's book (Picarta only mentions a KB (Royal Libary) copy, wihout date). The splendid lithos each illustrate an account of two pages, about Algiers, the Sahara, Congo, De Kaap, Egypt, Arabia, Persia, British East Indies, Dutch East Indies, China, Japan, and Siberia. Each print incorporates different typical scenes, panoramas, a stamp, an inhabitant in traditional dress and a map of the area. In the Dutch East Indies part, Uncle Bram tells about e.g. the resources in Sumatra ("Boomen en nog een Boomen"): gold, pewter, pepper, cinnamon, coffee etc. and in Java about e.g. the eruption of the Krakatau. This helps us date the book, as Uncle Bram tells us that the eruption (27 augustus 1883) happened "In het voorlaatste jaar" (the year before). An article dedicated to the book can be found on the blog "Het oude kinderboek". With 1 similar: Jocko. Teekeningen van J. Seidel, tekst van J.C. Bouwmeester (same place, same year)
