Nederduitsche Sprake. Lambert ten Kate Hermansz. Amsterdam. Rudolph en Gerard Wetstein. 1723. 2 volumes. Goeree, title in red and black and printer's vignette, folding language map of Europe and a folding table.

In his Aenleiding tot de kennisse van het verhevene deel der Nederduitsche sprak, Ten Kate tried to track down and record rules about the written and spoken language of his time through scientific comparison of older stages of language and by observation of the language at the time. He used a more subtle approach than most linguists in those days and made a distinction between grand and daily uses of language. Lambert ten Kate was a versatile Dutch scientist, merchant and rentier. Good set. (total 2)
