Jan van Dijk (1882-1960). "Illuminaties Amsterdam 28 Juli - 12 Augustus 1928"

Album in honour of the 1928 Amsterdam Olympics, with 8 photos of various sizes pasted on as many leaves, original cord-bound cardboard cover with gilt lettered title and the address "Fotobureau J. van Dijk Amsterdam", oblong folio.

With 7 inserted photos of which 6 also appear in the album (4x with stamp of J. van Dijk, and including 2 x 2 similar photos but slightly varied in print). The photographer apparently experimented in order to produce prints to his liking. One of the inserted photos does not appear in the album: "1878 MTS 1928." The Middelbare Technische School (also Kweekschool voor Machinisten) celebrated its 50th anniversary in 1928, which coincided nicely with the festivities for the occasion of the Olympic games, which were held from 28 July to 12 August 1928 in Amsterdam. In the Beeldbank of the Amsterdam City Archives the illumination photos appear in the photo collection of Jan van Dijk. However, the occasion during which the photos were taken is listed differently, for example multiple times as Edison Lichtweek 1929 and the Julianafeesten of 1910! We were unable to find a reason for this intriguing distinction, but we assume that the album's own print states the correct occasion.
