Remco Campert and Hannes Postma already worked together in 1984, when they published the collection of poetry "Zeven Vrijheden", with poems by Campert and coloured etchings by Postma. "Ratapan/Lamento" was published in 1999, a publication in honour of the poet's 70th birthday, with a translation of 32 poems in Indonesian (Ratapan is Indonesian for wail, lament). Our poem Lamento was also one of the three poems recited by Campert on the awarding of the Gouden Ganzenveer 2001. The term and the poem lamento therefore plays an important part in the heritage (poetic legacy) of Remco Campert.
