Sem Presser (1917-1986). "Berg. Commandant P.D.A."

Original photo, 23 x 16.5 cm., with title and directions in pencil and copyright stamp "Anefo" (Algemeen Nederlandsch Fotobureau) and numbered "HL 4832" on reverse.

With: "Westerveld, een der beulen Amersfoort. Westerveld P.D.A. 1945". Similar and similar-sized photo as the former, with the same features on reverse (numbered "HL 4879"). Iconic photos, part of a photo report of Amersfoort concentration camp shortly after the war, when it had become an internment camp for war criminals and collaborators. During World War II, Karl Peter Berg (1907-1949) was SS-Schutzhaftlagerführer II under SS-Obersturmführer Walter Heinrich in Amersfoort concentration camp and succeeded him as Lagerkommandant after Heinrich's departure in 1943. The second photo is of the Dutch camp-SS man ("Blockführer") Berend Johan Westerveld, also known as "The Bicycle Repairman". He was standing besides Berg when the photo was taken.
