Royal Air Force Pilots Flying Log Book + diary

Logbook and diary J. Voogt of 's Hertogenbosch from 1945-1946. Begun on 30 March 1945, after which the trip to London is undertaken in order to become a pilot.

Early May he describes the liberation of the Netherlands and how ca. 600 Dutch boys were marched through the camp. "Heel het kamp stond op de been en de Engelschen, die hier ver in de minderheid zijn, scholden omdat we hen uit hun bedden haalden. De volgende dag was er grote parade." He talks about toothache, nights with song, games and dance, his flights and a girl he met. Furthermore about the arriving instructor, "volgens jongens die hem kennen is het een heel goede vlieger die, ofschoon hij nogal vloekt toch nog wel n fijne vent moet zijn. Ik zal maar afwachten wat er van komt." He completes his solo flights, loses the nausea and passes his exams. However, not everything goes well: "Het week-end zit er deze week niet aan. Morgen ben ik weer op wacht, vanaf 5 uur tot maandagavond 5 uur. Wat 'n rotzooi, gloeiend. Ook Vingbaars is te lul en mot tot vanavond 5 uur staan. So long maar weer" (total 2).
