[Van Heemskerk family] Archive of the Amsterdam family,

consisting of more than 70 items, at the core of which 27 manuscripts by Theo Heemskerk (1852-1932), but also including printed ephemera such as proclamations, pamphlets, programmes for festivities, occasional poems, commercial printings etc.

A lot of information is available online on various, especially politically successfully descendants of the family. This archive contains for example: (1-27) Manuscripts signed by Theo Heemskerk, incl. a lot of work from his youth in the form of poems and/ or related to politics (often in multiple copies/ variants), dated 1869-1900, in various sizes. Contains for example a poem with each sentence consecutively begins with one of the letters of the name Thorbecke ("Tot straf van Nederland is hij geboren; Hij werd door blinde kiezers uitverkoren (...)" etc. (31 July 1869); Documents (partly in verse) related to the "debating-club Serva Fidem", incl. speeches delivered by Heemskerk on Saturday 8 January in honour of the club's anniversary; various pieces as a result of the elections (e.g. 8 June 1869 for the House of Representatives) and 5 letters to his family (1899-1900); (28-29) Twice a "Poorter Eed" on vellum by Jan Heemskerk (1772) and by his son Abraham Heemskerk (1807) (in 1832 owner of the double house Keizersgracht 217/219); (30) Notarial deed related to Abraham Heemskerk and his wife Johanna Jacoba Stuart (22 April 1809); (31) Copy of a letter from Prince Henry, patron of the Koninklijke Akademie at Delft, lamenting the abolishment of said academy; (32) "Programma der Ontvangst (...) den Minister van Binnenlandsche Zaken mr. J. Heemskerk in het Opvoedingsgesticht der Ursulinen te Venraij 8 Mei 1876 " (the calligraphed and gold-heightened copy of J. Heemskerk himself); (33-35) Two invoices (for coffee and clothing) and and an obligation for A. Heemskerk (1812-1819).
