PASSED

Marie Joseph Louis Adolphe Thiers (1797-1877). Signed letter,

to "M. de Fabricius chargé d'affaires des Pays Bas", dated Paris, 1 April 1836, on front of an otherwise blank bifolium with preprinted head of the Ministère des Affaires Étrangeres, 31.5 x 20 cm. (browned, folded several times), together with steel-engraved portrait inserted in wrapper with old auction strip on front.

Adolphe Thiers was a leading historian of the French Revolution, with a multi-volume book which argued that the republicanism of the Revolution was the central theme of modern French history. Thiers was prime minister in 1836, 1840 and 1848 and opponent of emperor Napoleon III. See extensively on him: https://tinyurl.com/n396o2c. This letter concerns the "qualité de nobles des sieurs Rémond", mentioning the fact that only 3 documents regarding that family appear at the "archives du Royaume", dated 1698, 1728 and 1768.
