Amsterdam, Jaques Desbordes, 1706, 3 volumes, (12),405,(3); (2),402,(30); (2),388,(20) p., with 3 identical engraved frontispieces, 8 (large) folding engraved maps and 24 folding engraved views and other plates, contemporary uniform marbled sheepskin, abundantly gilt back with raised bands and morocco letterpiece, large 12mo.

Two frontispieces lack part of the blank margin, the title page of volume I has a tear, here and there repairs in the margins and here and there slightly tanned/ foxed and some other minor defects. Bindings with some traces of use. Good set, each volume with the ex libris of Joseph Steinman on inside endpaper and the repeated stamp of Jouannau de Nully (La Vaudourière Castle at Lunay) at the beginning. Important and detailed description of the area, here in the scarce first French edition. The work appeared for the first time with the title "Conquista de las Islas Molucas" in 1609. There is also an edition published by Desbordes in 1707. Contains fine, large folding maps of Indonesia and the Philippines together and of the main Philippine islands, furthermore smaller maps of Borneo, Ceylon, Java, Baetjan etc. and views of e.g. Jakarta, Batavia and Solor (total 1 work in 3 volumes).
