Bart Hughes. "Homo sapiens correctus"

(The Mechanism of brain Blood Volume). (Amsterdam, 1964), scroll-shaped publication, 286 x 43 cm., with text in Dutch surrounding 10 illustrations, title in red felt-tip pen, illustrations handcoloured in felt-tip pen and with shading in red and blue pen, with at bottom signature "Amsterdam, Bart Huges" and "Nadruk Verboden. Rechten fl.100.000,-". Good copy with several marginal water stains bottom right and bottom.

Very rare publication. Dutch edition (we have previously auctioned off versions in English and in German). In this text, Huges claims that trepanning - drilling a hole in one's skull - will have a positive (i.e. mind-expanding) effect on the brain due to an improved balance of bodily fluids in the brain and the spinal cord. On 6 January 1965 he drilled a hole in his own forehead, making him instantly famous.
