Album Harry Machielse

Private album of pianist Harry Machielse. Contains 92 pages with his musical history in original photos and documents.

Machielse studied at the conservatory in Groningen and continued his career in that city. From the early '50s, he became a regular fixture with Tango-jazz orchestra Malando. This album concerns the preceding period. In the album from a photo of him as a boy with a violin to an invitation for the opening of De Lutine Club in The Hague, 1950. With documents and photos from his time at the Groningen conservatory, including a drawn Star of David containing the word "mensch", besides a photo with his friend Daan Nieweg, "Mijn beste vriend en collega, weggehaald door de duitsers en niet meer teruggekeerd. Indien in leven gebleven, was hij tot de beste stylisten gaan behoren." Also dozens of signed photos of artists and ensembles with whom Machielse worked, incl. Rada Pascu, Phyllis Heymans, Piet van Dijk Dance Orchestra, Eddy Meenk, Margareth Sterman, Lou Holtuin, Vernon Story, Frans Sevren, Paula Miranda, Irissa Cooper, Dona Maria, Reine Simon, Jenny Even and Gretel van Bruggen (with folded announcement poster of their performance on 9 May 1946 at the Stadsschouwburg Groningen) and various photos of performances, ensembles, random snapshots and flyers for shows.
