[Police actions] Photo archive W.M. van der Leeuw

Impressive photo archive of Commandant Midden Java 1947-1950 W.M. van der Leeuw, Captain of Infantry and officer of Special Services for the Military Court there, stationed at Semarang. Collection consists of more than 600 photos, most with manuscript caption, inserted in 4 leather albums. Incl. a photo report of the capture of Sukarno with caption 'Gevangen!' ('Captured!'), military images such as the construction of bridges, companies in and out of action, pelopors, villages and personal images of family, servants etc. Albums all in good condition.

Including framed company photo and a two-page biography of their Indonesian days, written by his wife after his death. *De Leeuw was a legal official of Militaire Zaken van het Kabinet der Koningin, when in 1946 he was appointed commander of infantry and Special Services at Semarang. He lived there with his wife and son, two female servants and a boy gardener, as was usual with the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army. In 1950, after various conversations on security with Captain Sisselaar of the paracommandos, Captain Westerling of the Special Forces and Generals Mollinger and Meyer, the family decided to escape the guerrilla and returned to the Netherlands.
